"While it is very important to have modern education, it will, however, be sad if you lose your Tibetan language and culture."
The Tibetan Community School

Class of 2008

The Tibetan Community School is the most successful initiative undertaken by the TCNYNJ organization. Tibetan children, from 5 to 18 years old, attend weekend classes to learn Tibetan Language, Culture, Religion and Performing Arts.

For the past 5 years, the academic highlight has been a Quiz Competition where students from each house participate at the end of the year. At present there are almost 150 students attending school from the tri-state area. We also have 20 volunteer teachers - 13 teachers who teach Tibetan language and 7 who teach Tibetan music and dance.

Our Vision

Our vision for the future is to operate and establish an affordable full-time Tibetan school in New York for grades K-12. Tibetan will be the primary spoken language, and cultural and religious components will be integral to the curriculum. Once this has been accomplished, we hope to open branches in Tibet where schools are in urgent need.
