“I am now in 6th grade. I was born in Kathmandu, Nepal, and in 2002 we moved to New York. On my first day at Tibetan School, I was surprised that it was held in a restaurant and not in a typical classroom like I would imagine it to be, but instantly I realized that it doesn’t matter where I am to learn something.
Since then, I have improved how to read and write, and do prayers in Tibetan. I have also learned how to sing dance and dance. I had never before in my life had participated in traditional Tibetan dancing, and my self-confidence has grown.”

About Us
The school is divided into 4 "houses" which are named after early kings of Tibet: Nya-Tri, Song-Tsen, Tri-Song, Tri-Ral. These houses compete with each other in the Annual Quiz Competition.
Classes are organized by language and writing skill levels, with grades from KG to 6 and a Transitional class for older students with little or no background in the Tibetan language.
The teachers are working towards a uniform methodology for instruction to the students, inspired by a recent seminar in Michigan. A workshop is planned for the summer for the teachers to develop strategies in teaching.
