Every year, TCNYNJ hosts the following events:

In addition to these three functions, we also sponsor other events that we feel are special for the Tibetan Community such as organizing the travel accomodations for Tibetans in the NY area to see His Holiness receive the award for the US Congressional Medal of Honor in Washington DC.

These functions are a joy to attend and are well received by the entire community and serve as a forum for members to connect with one another and to welcome new members of the community.

Worldwide Mass Prayers, Fasts for Tibetans in Tibet

Date: Saturday, August 30, 2008
Location: Club Sanm (previously known as Kasturi Hall)

Time: Starts at 7am

To bring relieve to all those Tibetans who are enduring hardship under Chinese oppression and enhance the collective merits of Tibetan and Chinese people, the Tibetan Solidarity Committee will organise a worldwide day-long fast and prayer congregation on 30 August.

The movement aims to "earnestly remind and appeal to all the human beings to effectively counter the acts of oppression, violence and injustice with non-violent and peaceful means, borne out of compassion and loving kindness to our oppressor."

Public Talk by H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama

At the request of TCNYNJ, HH the Dalai Lama has kindly accepted an invitation to give a public talk to the New York community. Details to follow.

Tenshug

July 24, 2008
Sponsored by all the North American Tibetan Communities, the Tibetan communities in the Americas earnestly requested His Holiness to confer a special teaching and accept a long life prayer offering (Tenshug in Tibetan). This special ceremony was combined with the teaching program requested by Deer Park Buddhist Center.

Program included an Official Ceremony, Cultural Program, Presentation of birthday cake, etc. After lunch, there were elections for the new board members.

The Regional Tibetan Women's Association of New York and New Jersey (RTWA) sponsored an offering of long life prayer for H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama and success and accomplishment of His Holiness' noble wishes in Walden, NY. Also included were a butter lamp offering and prayers for the brave Tibetan martyrs and victims of the the recent earthquake in China and cyclone in Myanmar.

Audience with H.H. the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa

His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa gave an audience hosted by TCNYNJ for the Tibetans living in the New York Metropolitan Area at Hunter College.

Congressional Gold Medal Presentation to H.H. the Dalai Lama

October 17, 2007
TCNYNJ chartered 22 buses to transport New York area Tibetans to Washington D.C. to attend the presentation. More than 1,500 Tibetans from the New York area attended the event.

An Audience with H.H. the Dalai Lama

TCNYNJ arranged an audience with HH the Dalai Lama for local Tibetans and Himalayans at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Over 6,000 people attend the event.
