The 2010 Summer Study for the Tibetan school children brought up abroad at the Tibetan Children's Village, Dharamsala, will be conducted for 6 weeks begining July 03, 2010.
The Tibetan school-going children aged 10 to 19 are eligible to participate in the program.
the students will spend five weeks at the TCV, where they will attend regular classes to learn Tibetan language, history, culture and traditions, current Tibetan situation, and Buddhism and values. Separate classes will be held for beginners and advanced students. After the five-week stay at the TCV, the participants will be taken on excursion to Tso-Pema (Rewalsar), the legendary land associated with Guru Padmasambhava.
Apart from the regular program, the participants will have an opportunity to explore the life at several TCV schools in and around Dharamsala and the functioning of the Tibetan administration-in-exile as well as witness a wonderful presentation of the Tibetan performing art by the local artists. They will also have a special audience separately with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Gyalwang Karmapa. In addition, they will have a question & answer session with Kalon Tripa Samdhong Rinpoche.
The program is restricted to the Tibetan school going children aged between 10 to 19. The total progam cost is $350 USD per student, which will include board and lodging, stationary, teaching materials, site visits, excursion, and travel from Delhi to Dharamsala and back. The program cost does not include air-ticket to India, which needs to be borne separately by the parents. The parents are required to make the travel arrangements (flight booking and visa to India) by themselves.
Last year, a total of 73 elementary and high school Tibetan students from abroad attended the program. Among them there were 46 from the United States, 7 from Canada, 14 from Switzerland, 3 from France, 2 from Belgium, and one from German.
Commenting on the program, 50 participants of the last year’s program said that the program made them feel proud of being Tibetans; 49 said attending the program was worthwhile; 48 said the home stay was a great experience and they also greatly enjoyed the music and dance classes; 46 said the program made them more aware of the functioning of Tibetan Government-In-Exile; 45 said they greatly enjoyed the mock Losar celebration; 44 found the introduction to Buddhism classes interesting and meaningful; and a similar number said the program facilitated them to improve their Tibetan language.
The registration for the camp will be closed on May 15, 2010. Interested candidates from North America should submit the registration form along with the check for US$350 to the following address. The check should be drawn in favor of the "Office of Tibet" with a note "TCV Summer Camp".
